Kennerleigh in the news - then and now...

 Devon County Council report on Post Office support   Note the namecheck in note 4 right at the end!!

Good News! The Council Cabinet on 14 July 2010 adopted this report and voted to extend funding till 2013. Here's an extract from the minutes:
 
"*214 Post Offices Review of Devon County Council Short Term Support Strategy 2008/11

(Councillors Connett, Hook, Newcombe and Westlake attended in accordance with Standing Order 25(2) and spoke to this item).

The Cabinet considered the report of the Chief Executive (see link above) evaluating the impact of the Council s Short Term Support Strategy and future actions consequent upon the anticipated end of the support programme in March 2011.

The Chief Executive outlined how this work had been an excellent example of a genuine partnership approach.

It was MOVED by Councillor Croad, SECONDED by Councillor Hart and

RESOLVED

(a) that the proprietors and volunteers in those Post Offices and Shops supported by the County Council through its Short Term Support Strategy be congratulated upon their considerable efforts and success in maintaining Post Office and retail services in their communities;

(b) that the Rural Shops Alliance and Community Council of Devon be also thanked for the significant contributions they have made to the Strategy;

(c) that, recognising the challenging economic conditions and the contribution that these business are making to their communities, approval be given to a continuing investment programme over the next two years, with tapered support for each of the 16 businesses involved at a level of 2,500 and 1,500 per business in 2011/12 and 2012/13 respectively;

(d) that approval be also given to the continued funding of specialist retail advice (two visits a year) through the Rural Shops Alliance both in 2011/12 and 2012/13."
