The Postal Services Bill 2010-11 had its second reading in the Commons on 27th October 2010. It has important implications not just for the Royal Mail service, but for post offices up and down the country which - it is proposed - will be treated separately from the Royal Mail and eventually perhaps opened up to "mutualisation" on a co-operative model.

KaDCA proposes joint approach
KaDCA has been in touch with the DCC Chief Executive's office suggesting a joint approach to the proposals by all the affected Devon communities, to be co-ordinated by DCC.
KaDCA Chairman Don King summarised his earlier statement (see below) and said his suggestion was
"in part, driven by the thought that rural communities and their representative organizations should, in any case, demonstrate a willingness, even keenness, to be involved in the consultation process from the word go and to make that clear to government ministers from the word go, as well."
The County Council has reacted favourably. "Many thanks indeed for making contact (they replied) and for Kennerleigh's thoughtful response. We have a meeting early in the new year to discuss next steps in our lobbying strategy for Post Offices and I am very happy to include your reaction to the mutualisation proposals. Kenneth Parsons, Rural Shops Alliance, is also engaged in lobbying work nationally and meets with the Minister from time to time. I've made Kenneth aware of your thoughts."
The Council is scheduling a meeting early in the New Year to discuss their lobbying response.
We'll bring you news of further developments on this site.
KaDCA Chairman Don King's statement criticisies "lack of detail".
King said: “Business Secretary, Vince Cable, is obviously keen to sort out the massive post office muddle in a business like way. That’s a refreshing change and we welcome it.
